Automation Hardware

Information on the hardware inside your RCK cabinet.

1. Power Distribution

1.1. Power Supply

The DC power supply is responsible for converting AC power from your facility's electrical supply to the DC power used by the automation hardware. It is responsible for powering all of the IO hardware and some field instruments.

RCK installations utilize several different types of power supply based on the application and the date of install for your system. Some examples are shown below.

1.2. Quint UPS (older)

1. Hold down “Stick→UPS” and “UPS→Stick” buttons for longer than 6 seconds
2. Remove battery fuse
3. Disconnect UPS to battery wiring plug
4. Reconnect wiring
5. Install battery fuse
6. Hold down either of the two buttons for longer than 6 seconds
7. Hold down both buttons for longer than six seconds

1.3. Quint UPS - UPS CONF software

For the USB equipped model of Quint UPS the battery replacement and UPS reset may be accomplished with either the Phoenix Contact UPS-CONF software available from Phoenix Contact here: UPS_CONF

1.4. QUINT UPS Battery Change

The UPS battery modules can be easily changed when needed using the following procedure:

 

1. Place the QUINT UPS into service mode by pressing and holding the service mode button located on the from of the UPS module. Press and hold this button for 6 seconds to put the UPS into service mode.

2. Open the battery casing using the spring clips at the top.

3. Remove the battery fuse.

4. Disconnect the battery cell wiring from the cells.

5. Remove the old cells and install the replacement cells.

6. Reconnect the battery cell wires.

7. Re-install the battery fuse.

8. Return the UPS module to normal mode by pressing and holding the service mode button for six seconds.

1.5. Electronic Circuit Breaker

Your RCK cabinet may be equipped with electronic circuit breakers (ECBs). These provide over-current protection for branch circuits within the ACS cabinet such as, embedded controllers, PLC, HMIs, etc. and in some cases may provide protection for field instrumentation circuits.

ECBs are able to be tuned to the appropriate overload value for a range of loads and are able to be reset when an over-current trip occurs. Please note, if your ECB trips, it is necessary to identify the cause of the fault as soon as possible. Do not simply reset the tripped circuit or increase the trip setpoint without making sure that any faults have been corrected.
